Witchy Woodland Workshops - 11-14yrs

Join our Witchy Woodland Workshops this summer, as part of the project These Lancashire Women are Witches in Politics. We will be foraging for materials, sounds and movements to create costumes and develop a wild parade. We will explore Pennington Flash and make regalia with clay, weaving and found materials, as well as work with an actor who will empower us through actions and voice as we invent our parade.

Sessions are designed to support young people transitioning into secondary school/ a new school year who are aged 11-14yrs.

Please ensure you can attend all of the sessions when booking:

2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, 11th August (11am - 12.30pm), and 14th August (10am-2pm).

Please note the first three workshops will take place at Pennington Flash.

The workshops and parade are inspired by the history of Leigh Female Reformers from 1819 who wanted the vote for working people. Artists Anna FC Smith and Helen Mather are inviting young people to get inspired by their environment and these political women who harnessed power through the use of symbols.

The workshops will end with a performance on Civic Square, part of Wigan Arts Festival in Leigh.
