Any Wigan reference worth its salt will inevitably arrive at George Formby. The legendary performer , born in Wigan on 26 May 1904 rose from modest beginnings to achieve worldwide fame as a wonderful performer on stage, screen and in the nations hearts. His oft underappreciated Ukulele talents, coupled with endearing wit, modesty and creative brilliance catapulted him to mega stardom and afforded him rare opportunity that simply did not otherwise visit tiny Wigan, in England’s industrial north. Especially for Wigan Arts Festival, Formby’s ups, downs and many endeavours are affectionately regaled by the brilliant Westhoughton Branch of the George Formby Society.
Expect entertaining tales, honest accounts and of course, Ukulele playing from as many as 9 talented enthusiasts. If you want authenticity, this is for you.
